The MLab in the poles !🧊

This summer, oceanographer Camila Marín embarked on an exciting expedition to the Arctic! 🌊❄️ She joined a research cruise led by the  GEOMAR Helmholtz center (Kiel, Germany), and thanks to Mark Hopwood.

The expedition conducted a latitudinal transect, collecting samples along specific routes, including transects toward fjords and along Greenland's eastern coast. During the expedition, Camila investigated differences in the abundance of prokaryotic bacteria using flow cytometry. She also ran incubations to assess primary production levels and performed detailed single-cell analysis to study microorganisms in-depth. 🔬

Reflecting on her experience, Camila shared how the expedition gave her a fresh perspective on science: "It's crucial to compare the two poles and see firsthand how climate change is advancing. Once our data was collected, we were able to cross-reference it with other researchers' work." 🌍✨

Camila's Arctic journey promises to contribute valuable insights into this unique ecosystem and its response to climate change! 🧊📈
