Today we celebrate one of the most important species of the Southern Ocean: krill! 🦐💙 At The MLab, we focus on studying the microbiome of krill, exploring how these tiny creatures interact with their environment and other marine life. 🔬🧫

Today, we were honored to host Dr. Juan Höfer, marine biologist and researcher at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, Chile. In his seminar, Dr. Höfer talked about how glacier melting is reshaping coastal ecosystems in the Antarctic Peninsula and affecting local biogeochemical cycles.

Last week, the Mlab, together with fellow members of the Department of Microbial Ecology, took a well-deserved break from the lab benches and screens to reconnect with nature — and each other 🍃✨.

This week, the Mlab took part in PHday at the CSIC Serrano Campus, a vibrant event that brings together early-career researchers from across the life sciences to share their work and build connections 🤝🌱.

Today at the National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN-CSIC), we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Ricardo Alcamí 🧬, who gave a truly fascinating and timely talk on the entry and impact of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Antarctica 🐦❄️.
